UK Prepared to Utilize Frozen Russian Holdings to Finance the Ukrainian Military Campaign

The British government is prepared to move forward with employing the total value of seized Russia's holdings to support the Ukrainian war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has declared.

In a collective announcement, the leaders of the Britain, the French Republic, and Germany emphasized that this joint measure would increase strain on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and compel Russia to participate in talks.

They further noted that the move would be carried out in tight collaboration with the US.

British penalties have blocked over £25bn of Russia's resources since the Russian government began its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, previously, funds provided to the Ukrainian government using Russia's holdings had exclusively been taken from gains and dividends accrued on them.

Sir Keir informed Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were in agreement in their goal to advance efforts toward utilizing the full value of the seized Moscow's national holdings to conclude the conflict.

He stated that additional sanctions soon would increase the strain on Russia.

This announcement follows EU representatives met in the Danish capital last week to discuss employing immobilized Russia's holdings for a €140bn loan to the Ukrainian nation.

Recently, President Donald Trump called on Group of Seven partners to seize or employ immobilized Russian assets, as reported by news outlets.

The value of seized Russian holdings in the European Union is estimated to be approximately €211bn.

Moscow launched extensive bombardments all over Ukraine on recently, causing blackouts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and multiple additional areas.
