The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
