Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
