Los Angeles Battles Record-Breaking Heat Only One Week After Major Winter Weather.
After enduring significant rainfall that caused flooding across areas in the city, the City of Angels is now seeing abnormally high temperatures for the end of February.
All-Time High Temperatures
On Friday midday, the mercury climbed to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown Los Angeles, as reported by weather officials. This breaks the old record for this date, which was 88°F (31°C) and was recorded just last year.
"Very warm conditions" were highlighted on official maps for the region.
Public Health Alerts
The weather service cautioned that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their recommendations featured:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Not leaving anyone unattended in a hot car.
A Dramatic Shift
This dramatic increase in temperature follows closely after a intense winter storm that struck the area last week. That system delivered thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to the mountains, triggering mudslide risks for millions residents.

Temperatures Easing
Forecasters predict some relief will arrive. Temperatures were predicted to decrease to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in downtown LA by late Friday.
Other locales that experienced 90°F featured Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Elsewhere, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were expected to experience the upper eighties.
For the weekend, central Los Angeles can see readings in the 80s, with cooler weather on tap for the following week.
