England's Coach Southee Unsure on Ashes Availability
The bowler's most recent Test for the Kiwis was versus the English side in December 2024.
England's bowling consultant Southee is still working through what his involvement will be at the upcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.
The ex- New Zealand pace bowler is only likely to be available for the opening match because of his involvement in the International League T20 tournament, which begins on 2 December in the United Arab Emirates.
Southee, aged 36, assumed a position as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the summer after taking 391 wickets in 107 Tests for the Kiwis.
Commenting as England's squad for the opening of three T20 matches against the Kiwis was announced, Southee stated of his availability: "We are still evaluating that at the moment.
"We will determine what happens over the next little while."
England bowling legend Broad had declared the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the contest, which begins on November 21.
"I don't think there's ever a poor Australian cricket team," Southee said.
"The team's attention is firmly on our own objectives. I think the caliber of [England's] team that's going out to the host country is brilliant.
"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I believe the whole cricket world is."
But, before England travel to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in Christchurch on this Saturday.
