Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
